Dish with Phoenix Pattern
in Painted Enamels
K'ang-hsi period (A.D.
1662-1722)
Ch'ing Dynasty
Diameter 21.3cm
This bronze-bodied
dish is designed in the
shape of 16 petals. Eight
fluttering phoenixes against
a yellow ground occupy the
face of the dish, at whose
center are stylized flowers
etched round and stained
in red. The back of the dish
has a white ground. With
its elegant shape and bright
glaze colors, this is a fine
example of the later K'ang-
hsi period.
